I have (300)assorted 6-8 ft. trees we planted 3years ago. I have been moving them by hand but, to much manual labor. local tree guys want $30 per tree to move and rental yards do not rent tree spades.
Now that my Tc-30 with 7308fel will be here next week I am looking at a small tree spade to finish this project. I found this one on line. question #1 has anyone used or know of anyone that has experience with one of these treetoads?
#2 is there any other brand of tree spade that will fit a compact out there? At the prices I'm being quoted I just might develop a little sideline here, growing and planting trees, alot of new subdivisions just getting started around me.

Thanks, called them up, broekman 30" tree spade $5995.00
3ph hardware $350.00. 3ph must lift 1600lb min. and hydraulics must deliver 3000psi. lifting capacity fits (barely) but 3000psi ?? ,only spec. I have is 6.1gal per min., pressure releif valve dumps at what pressure? I will have to find out. (I read a lot of talk about adjusting this setting higher a couple of weeks ago?)
It appears this unit like most I have found is a bit pricey for a residentual implement and a bit big for my little tractor. still have my eye on that 24" OR 32" tree toad at $2200 or $2500 but, how durable are they? these people have all these testimonials from nursery owners and landscaping companies in Minnesota. I will call around locally and see if anybody has heard of this thing and share their thoughts if any. hey I need to hear from the experts ....

This is what I have been looking for too, for quite some time...The Treetoad unit that is. Most hydraulic pressure relief systems are set for a window betwen 1800psi - 2200psi. After that, the operating pressures get rather risky, especially if one decides to fiddle with the relief valve settings of the control valves. But 3000psi? That is a lot of pressure.
Even the treetoad is pricey for my desires, but more or less what I have been looking for.

A better question about the hydraulic spade than will the 3ph lift it might be how much weight must be on the tractor rear axles to sink the spade instead of lifting the tractor instead?
I wonder if the 3ph model has a lock down for the 3ph to keep if from floating or something like a down-pressure kit for a post hole auger? It sounds like tractor hydraulics won't be adequate if it actually requires 3,000 lbs. to sink the spade. If it does require that much pressure, a small tractor may lift rather than the spade sinking anyway. Higher pressure PTO pumps may be available. Don't know; $30/tree starts sounding like a bargain--especially there's no guarantee that do it yourself equipment will actually do the work.

valid points on weight and hydraulics, but these things shown on skidsteers all over the place and I don't see them weighing more that a compact with loaded tires, and skidsteers hydraulic systems are that much stronger? I found a couple makers of 24" hydraulic tree spades with 3ph hookups but we are still looking at $5000 plus, and one sites spec. sheet stated for 45hp and above tractors, which appears to be a very general spec. Since I will not spend 5 grand and my tractor is to light I'm back to the $2200, 24" tree toad which only uses tractor hydraulics to lift and carry ,and set,the tree, more research required, hey Willie H, I will buy it, move my trees and, then sell it to you

I thought the same thing when I saw the pic of one mounted on a skid steer. Sure would be a bugger to spend that much and then find the spade wouldn't sink in your particular soil. Using a 3ph mounted one would create forces similar to a 3ph backhoe, so the load on the tractor frame also might be a good thing to consider.
It doesn't sound like you're willing to go for the price tags though so it's probably not an issue. I wouldn't go for the price either but we are in logging country. Transplanting trees here would be sort of like selling ice in the arctic.
